  1. 1. Cartilage proteins and their arthritogenic properties in arthritis

    Author : Stefan Carlsén; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; HLA-DR4; tolerance; COMP; CXI; CIX; arthritis; Cartilage; collagen;

    Abstract : In this thesis the role of cartilage proteins and their potential as antigen and availability to the immune system in arthritis were investigated. Six papers are included; where four present new animal models for Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one shows how genetic disorders in cartilage may affect arthritis and the last how posttranslational modification of collagen type II (CII) affects tolerance. 2. 2. Genetic markers in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; family history; genetic marker; HLA B27; HLA DR4; properdin factor B; C3 complement; -antitrypsin; haptoglobin; transferrin;

    Abstract : Genetic as well as environmental factors are believed to be of importance in the etiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There are a number of previous studies of genetic markers in RA, but so far no genetic linkage and only a few associations have been found. Of the associations only one (with the HLA antigen DR4) appears to be well documented. READ MORE

  3. 3. HLA, salivary IgA and mutans streptococci - is there a relation?

    Author : Marie Louise Wallengren; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunoglobulin A; Streptococcus mutans; Streptokocker; Karies;

    Abstract : Mutansstreptokocker (MS) är en grupp bakterier som i många studier visats ha ett starkt samband med karies. Bakterierna anses tillhöra vår normala munflora, men alla individer har inte MS och mängden skiljer sig mycket från en individ till en annan. Orsakerna till denna variation är till viss del välkända, som t.ex. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reactivity to collagen type II and C1q in rheumatic diseases

    Author : Johan Rönnelid; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : rheumatoid arthritis; systemic lupus erythematosus; anti-collagen antibodies; anti-Clq antibodies; ELISPOT; interferon-y; IL-4;

    Abstract : In rheumatoid arthritis (RA),other arthritides and in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) there is immunological reactivity to collagen type II (CII) and to complement component C1q. Parts of the CII and C1q molecules are structurally and immunologically related. READ MORE
