  1. 1. Metals in MSWI fly ash - problems or opportunities?

    Author : Karin Karlfeldt Fedje; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HNO3; water; NH3NO4; MSW ash; pH; metals; solvent extraction; speciation; Cu; leaching;

    Abstract : Incineration of municipal solid waste is a commonly used management method to take care of our waste. However, the residues produced are a problem. They often contain large amounts of potentially toxic metal compounds and soluble salts, which can cause harm to the environment and human health if released from the ash. READ MORE

  2. 2. HNO3-Induced Atmospheric Corrosion of Copper, Zinc and Carbon Steel

    Author : Farid Samie; Christofer Leygraf; Carlos Arroyave; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitric acid; deposition velocity; mass transport; air velocity; relative humidity; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The role of nitric acid (HNO3) on the atmospheric corrosion of metals has so far received little or no attention. However, the last decades of decreasing sulphur dioxide (SO2) levels and unchanged HNO3 levels in many industrialized countries have resulted in an increased interest in possible HNO3-induced atmospheric corrosion effects. 3. 3. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface pre-treatments; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; omvandlingsbeläggningar; cerium; lokaliserad deposition; ytförbehandlingar; microstruktur SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 4. 4. An Insight into the Critical Role of Microstructure and Surface Preparation on Localized Conversion Coating Deposition on Cast Al Alloys

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Marjorie Olivier; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface preparation; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; Aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; Cerium; lokal deposition; omvandlingsbeläggningsbehandling; förbehandling av yta; mikrostruktur; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The spontaneous cerium conversion coating formation over aluminium alloys is affected by the chemical process conditions, the surface preparation prior to conversion treatment and the microstructure of the underlying alloy. Most research performed until now focus only on the former whereas the influence of the latter two is poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Environment Related Surface Phenomena and their Influence on Properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo : Oxidation at Elevated Temperature and Corrosion During Chemical Treatment

    Author : Birhan Sefer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis covers investigation of the surface phenomena of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloys related with oxidation at elevated temperature and corrosion duringchemical treatment in hydrofluoric-nitric acid (HF/HNO3) solutions. The explored phenomenaare related to manufacturing and service conditions of aero-engine components. READ MORE
