  1. 1. Robustness analysis of eukaryotic signal transduction with emphasis on the HOG pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Lars-Göran Ottosson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; systems biology; robustness; gTOW; signal transduction; MAPK signalling; HOG; kinase; phosphatase; transcription factor;

    Abstract : Fundamental to life, in particular for unicellular microorganisms that generally are subjected to rapidly changing environmental parameters, is the need to monitor and integrate environmental stimuli with the internal cell status. The sensing of stimuli are typically initiated at the plasma membrane and then transmitted by means of intracellular signalling networks to elicit proper cellular responses. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cellular Resilience and Fragility in Response to Environmental and Gene Expression Perturbations

    Author : Lars-Göran Ottosson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Phenomics; Liquid microcultivation; Tellurite; Gene overexpression; gToW; Cellular signalling; HOG; Protein phosphatase;

    Abstract : Cells are constantly subjected to perturbations. Whether these are extracellular or intracellular, they can be detrimental to cellular fitness. The cell has evolved elaborate systems and mechanisms that allow it to remain functional in the face of disturbances. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stress, Homeostasis and Robustness: Molecular and Systems Level Analysis in Yeast

    Author : Doryaneh Ahmadpour; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Abstract Cells constantly encounter stress due to alterations in the external milieu or internal parameters. However, cells are robust to such changes and maintain homeostasis. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism, we attempted to elucidate aspects of homeostasis and robustness at both molecular and systems levels. READ MORE

  4. 4. From cell populations to single cells - quantitative analysis of osmotic regulation in yeast

    Author : Elzbieta Petelenz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mikrobiologi; systembiologi;

    Abstract : To date, interdisciplinary research is becoming increasingly popular because it combines the achievements of diverse disciplines, having the potential of providing a completely new angle to pertinent research problems. Using increasingly sophisticated tools allowed obtaining large sets of high resolution data but also created the challenge of using this information effectively and interpreting it in a reliable way. 5. 5. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae MAPKAP kinases Rck1 and Rck2 in stress responses

    Author : Elizabeth Bilsland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein kinases Rck1 and Rck2 (Radiation sensitivity Complementing Kinases) were originally cloned as suppressors of Schizosaccharomyces pombe checkpoint mutants. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae we found that overexpression of either kinase has the ability to depress sporulation in mec1 and rad24 mutant backgrounds. READ MORE
