  1. 1. Patch clamp and calcium studies on human colonic mucosal cells

    Author : Peter Sand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Human; colon crypt; HT29; K channel; Ca oscillations; volume regulation; patch clamp;

    Abstract : Background: The main function of the large intestine is to fine-tune electrolyte and water balance. This is achieved through the consorted action of ion channels, transporters and pumps. Failures of this system can lead to diarrhoea. READ MORE

  2. 2. The mucus layer and other barriers to intestinal drug absorption

    Author : Agneta Wikman Larhed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : The extraepithelial mucus layer acts as a barrier to the absorption and diffusion of drugs. Three in vitro models have been used for studies of this and other intestinal barriers to drug transport. A drug absorption model based on monolayers of the mucus-producing human intestinal goblet HT29-H cell line was developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aiway Mucins: experimental models for studies of secretions

    Author : Naila Svitacheva; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystic fibrosis; bovine trachea; radiolabelling; cell line; primary cell culture; organ culture; mucus; mucin; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Mucins are essential components of the mucosal barrier. The complexity of the airway mucosal barrier is reflected in the lack of specific treatments to block mucin hypersecretion associated with several respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and cystic fibrosis. 4. 4. Notch signalling in carcinogenesis : With special emphasis on T-cell lymphoma and colorectal cancer

    Author : Jonas Ungerbäck; Peter Söderkvist; Ola Hermanson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Notch signalling; T-cell lymphoma; colorectal cancer; Wnt signalling; transcription; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The Notch signalling pathway is an evolutionary conserved pathway, named after the Notch receptors, Notch1-4 in mammals, which upon cell-cell contact and ligand binding releases the intracellular domain (NICD). NICD translocates into the nucleus where it binds the transcriptional repressor RBP-Jk, which together with co-activators belonging to the Mastermind-like family of proteins form a transcriptional activation complex. 5. 5. Synthesis and Development of Methods for Preparation of Inositolphosphoglycans, Glycoglycerolipids and Glycerophospholipids

    Author : Jan Lindberg; Bertram Fraser-Reid; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of a series of myo-inositol-containing oligosaccharides, and the exploration of using the chiral epoxide (S)-glycidol in short synthetic routes to glycoglycerolipids and glycerophospholipids.In chapter 2, synthesis of the core heptasaccharyl myo-inositol Galp(α1-6)Galp(α1 -3)Galf(β1-3)[Glcp(α1-P04-6)Manp](α1-3)Manp(α1-4)GlcNp(α1-6)Ins-1-P04, found in the lipophosphoglycans of Leishmania parasites, is described.
