  1. 21. Optical Studies of InAs Quantum Dots in III-V Semiconductors

    Author : Lars Landin; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum dots; III-V semiconductors; k.p calculations; photoluminescence; deep-level transient spectroscopy; photoconductivity; few particle effect; single dot spectroscopy; InAs InP; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Landin; InAs GaAs;

    Abstract : I this thesis, optical studies of InAs quantum dots (QDs) in GaAs and InP are presented. The electronic structure of these zero dimensional structures, grown in the Stranski-Krastanow growth mode, was studied by photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), junction space-charge techniques (JSCT) and photoconductivity (PC) measurements. Author : Arvid Larsson; Per Olof Holtz; Artur Zrenner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum dot; semiconductor; optical properties; spin; transport; wetting layer; polarization; kvantprick; halvledare; optiska egenskaper; spin; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Semiconductor physics; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. Abstract : Semiconductor nanowires are studied by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) based methods in this work. In the first section, the growth mechanism of gallium arsenide nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy is investigated. The nanowires are epitaxially grown from a gallium arsenide substrate by using gold seed particles as catalysts. READ MORE

  5. 25. Design and Construction of Low-Temperature Scanning Tunnelling Microscope for Spectroscopy

    Author : Joakim Lindahl; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mechanical properties; thermophysical properties; stepper motor; ultra-high vacuum; inertial-mass; low temperatures; scanning tunneling microscopy; optical propertie; Fysik; Semiconductory physics; Physics; scanning tunneling luminescence; local probe; photon emission; local carrier injection; Halvledarfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Lindahl;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses some of the fundamental requirements needed to be fulfilled when constructing a low temperature scanning tunnelling microscope (STM). Three different designs, two non-vacuum and one ultra-high vacuum (UHV), based on either inertial-mass or novel stepper motor principles are presented. READ MORE
