  1. 1. Prostaglandins and angiogenesis in experimental cancer

    Author : Hans Axelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; dorsal skin fold chamber; prostanoids; PGE2; indomethacin;

    Abstract : Background and aim. Genes, proteins and pathways have been identified and suggested as potential targets in tumor angiogenesis, but current anti-angiogenic therapies have provided only modest benefits in survival of cancer patients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Birger Axelsson; Michael Haney; Hans Tydén; Anil Gupta; Patrick Wouters; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Milrinone; levosimendan; vein graft flow; myocardial ischemia; protection; inotropy; diastole; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Comparative Genomics in Birds

    Author : Erik Axelsson; Hans Ellegren; Martin Lercher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular genetics; Birds; molecular evolution; macrochromosomes; microchromosomes; mutation rate; substitution rate; base composition; positive selection; genetic drift; population size; Genetik;

    Abstract : To shed light on forces that shape the molecular evolution of bird genomes, and in turn avian adaptations, comparative analyses of avian DNA sequences are important. Moreover, contrasting findings in birds to those of other organisms will lend a clearer view on general aspects of molecular evolution. READ MORE

  4. 4. Amoebae as Hosts and Vectors for Spread of Campylobacter jejuni

    Abstract : Campylobacter jejuni is the leading bacterial cause of gastrointestinal diarrheal disease in humans worldwide. This zoonotic pathogen has a complex epidemiology due to its presence in many different host organisms. READ MORE
