  1. 1. Exercise and outcome measures in patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis

    Author : Helene Alexanderson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Inflammatory myopathies; exercise; outcome measures; disability;

    Abstract : Polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) are chronic idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) which are clinically characterized by symmetrical proximal muscle weakness, fatigue, myalgia and extra- muscular involvement. Muscle impairment is the most significant feature of PM and DM with characteristic infiltrates of mononuclear inflammatory cells in muscle biopsies, elevated inflammatory parameters in serum and characteristic EMG changes, which separate these disorders from neurologic disorders and also fibromyalgia. 2. 2. Mitochondrial plasmids, genetic conflicts and sex-determination in Silene vulgaris

    Author : Helene Andersson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silene vulgaris; sex-determination; mitochondrial plasmids; genetic conflicts; Botanik; Botany;

    Abstract : Plants like all other eukaryotic organisms carry most of their DNA in the nucleus. In addition, plants also have both chloroplasts and mitochondria that contain their own genetic material. The genomes in chloroplasts and mitochondria control certain vital processes, but most often the organelles act under strict nuclear control. READ MORE

  3. 3. MRSA and other resistant bacteria : prevalence, patient and staff experiences, wounds and infection control

    Author : Helene Andersson; Bjöörn Fossum; Christina Lindholm; Mats Kalin; Eva Johansson; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRSA; VRE; ESBL; Colonization; Infection control; Wound; Patient experiences; Staff experiences; Nursing care; Qualitative interview; Qualitative content analysis; MRSA;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance has become a major and serious global problem in healthcare. Limited treatment options for infections caused by these organisms can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reactive gliosis in the injured brain: The effect of cell communication and Nrf2-mediated cellular defence

    Author : Heléne Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Keywords: astrocyte; gap junction; Hmox1; microglia; Nrf2; Nqo1; oxidative stress; reactive gliosis;

    Abstract : Stroke and other brain injuries trigger an extensive glial cell response referred to as reactive gliosis. Reactive gliosis is characterized by hypertrophic and proliferating astrocytes, proliferating microglia and NG2-positive cells, which eventually form a bordering glial scar around the damaged area. 5. 5. Petrology and Geochemistry of the nakhlite meteorites : Tracking complex igneous and aqueous processes on Mars during the Amazonian

    Author : Hélène Breton; University of Glasgow; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mars; Nakhlites; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : The overarching science question being addressed by this research project was the geological history of the nakhlite group of Martian meteorites as representative of a young Amazonian Martian crust. This included the magmatic processes and mechanism of emplacement at the origin of the meteorites but also the nature of a young Amazonian Martian aquifer that circulated throughout the nakhlites bedrock from its chemistry, origin and longevity.
