  1. 1. High temperature aerosol formation and emission minimisation during combustion of wood pellets

    Author : Henrik Wiinikka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid biomass under fixed bed conditions is a common technique to generate heat and power in both small and large scale grate furnaces (domestic boilers, stoves, district heating plants). From both an environmental and economical perspective, one of the most interesting alternatives to replace oil and electricity for heating of family houses and apartments in Sweden is wood pellets made of stem wood sawdust from pine and spruce. 2. 2. Particle emissions from wood pellet combustion

    Author : Henrik Wiinikka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid biomass under fixed bed conditions is a common technique to generate heat and power in both small and large scale grate furnaces (domestic boilers, stoves, district heating plants). Unfortunately, combustion of biomass will generate particle emissions containing both large fly ash particles and fine particles that consist of fly ash and soot. READ MORE

  3. 3. CFD-modelling of the SNCR process in iron ore grate-kiln plants

    Author : Per E.C. Burström; Henrik Wiinikka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : LKAB (Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB) is an international company that producesiron ore products for the steel industry; their main product is iron ore pellets.The aim with this research project is to numerically investigate if it is possible to use selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) technologies in grate-kiln pelletizingplants for NOx reduction. 4. 4. Benzene-char conversion and particle-vapor characterization in biomass gasification

    Author : Mario Morgalla; Michael Strand; Leteng Lin; Henrik Wiinikka; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biomass gasification; fluidized bed; particulate matter; aerosol; char; tars; benzene conversion.; Bioenergiteknik Energi- och Miljöteknik; Bioenergy Technology;

    Abstract : Biomass is increasingly attracting attention as an alternative to fossil fuels. Gasification permits the thermochemical conversion of biomass into a product gas rich in carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The product gas can be further processed to generate heat, electricity, synthesis gas, chemicals, and biofuels. READ MORE

  5. 5. Isoconversional analysis for the prediction of mass-loss rates during pyrolysis of biomass

    Author : Lina Norberg Samuelsson; Matthaus Babler; Rosana Moriana; Henrik Wiinikka; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pyrolysis; biomass; kinetics; cellulose; spruce; black-liquor; model-free; isoconversional; prediction; pyrolys; biomassa; kinetik; cellulosa; gran; svartlut; model-free; isoconversional; förutsägelse; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Biomass is the only renewable carbon source that can compete with fossil energy sources in terms of production of materials, chemicals and fuels. Biomass can be transformed into charcoal, liquid and gas through pyrolysis, i.e. pure thermal decomposition. READ MORE
