1. Novel Solid Phase Extraction and Mass Spectrometry Approaches to Multicomponent Analyses in Complex Matrices
Abstract : Analysis of compounds present in complex matrices is always a challenge, which can be partly overcome by applying various sample preparation techniques prior to detection. Ideally, the extraction techniques should be as selective as possible, to minimize the concentration of interfering substances. READ MORE

2. Large Volume Injection and Hyphenated Techniques for Gas Chromatographic Determination of PBDEs and Carbazoles in Air
Abstract : This thesis is based on studies in which the suitability of various gas chromatography (GC) injection techniques was examined for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and carbazoles, two groups of compounds that are thermally labile and/or have high boiling-points. For such substances, it is essential to introduce the samples into the GC system in an appropriate way to avoid degradation and other potential problems. READ MORE

3. Method for measurement of exposure to electrophiles : Strategy for identification and exposure estimation using N-terminal haemoglobin adducts
Abstract : We are exposed to many chemicals in our everyday life. Some of these chemicals could pose risks for our health. To reduce such risks, it is important to know what we are exposed to, how much, and how toxic the chemicals are. READ MORE

4. Process intensification in mechanical pulping : Reduced process complexity and improved energy efficiency
Abstract : This work shows that, for newsprint quality grades, the production processes for mechanical pulp can be simplified, and the specific electrical energy demand can be reduced with around 600 kWh/ton (30%). The purpose of the work is to demonstrate how the production cost for mechanical pulps can be decreased through increased energy efficiency and reduced number of unit operations. READ MORE

5. The influence of fibre characteristics on bulk and strength properties of TMP and CTMP from spruce
Abstract : This thesis is intended to contribute to an increased knowledge about the influence of fibre characteristics on bulk and strength properties of thermomechanical pulp (TMP) and chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) from spruce. It deals with laboratory sheet properties and how they are affected by the conditions during pressing and drying, e.g. READ MORE
