  1. 1. Soluble intercellular and vascular cell adhesion molecules-1 in lymphoid neoplasms : A clinical and prognostic study of Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and chronic B-lymphocytic leukaemia

    Author : Ilse Christiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Hodgkin s disease; non-Hodgkin s lymphomas; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; sICAM-1; sVCAM-1; prognostic markers; VCAM-1; ICAM-1; Hodgkin cell lines; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : The interaction of soluble adhesion molecules with adhesion ligands expressed by immunological cells interfere with the cell-cell adhesion essential for the signal transductions that initiate immunological responses. Preliminary data suggest that soluble adhesion molecules also promote angiogenesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and immunopathological studies in Hodgkin's disease with special reference to prognosis

    Author : Ulla Axdorph; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hodgkin's disease (HD) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) have certain features in common, but also distinct clinical and pathological differences. Thus, HD has many features of both an infectious (fever, leukocytosis, eosinophilia, night sweats, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly) and a malignant process with few tumour cells, T-cell accumulation and sclerosis. 4. 4. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma

    Author : Teresa Frisan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epstein-Barr virus; tumor immune escape; antigen presentation; cytotoxic T lymphocytes;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cancer risks in Swedish pesticide applicators in agriculture, forestry and gardening : a toxicological and epidemiological approach

    Author : Jan Dich; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : pesticide applicators; cancer incidence; Hodgkin s disease; non-Hodgkin s lymphoma; soft tissue sarcoma; prostate cancer; pesticides; phenoxy acid herbicides; organochlorine insecticides; occupational exposure; protective equipment; smoking habits;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were (1) to study the cancer risks in Swedish pesticide applicators, which is one of the occupational groups that is most exposed to pesticides in Sweden. This could be done by utilizing a complete register kept by the Swedish Board of Agriculture which include 20,245 subjects with licenses issued between 1965 and 1976, for epidemiological studies.
