  1. 1. Coronary Reactive Hyperemia

    Author : Göran Olivecrona; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; t-PA; P2Y1-receptors; Hypothermia; Coronary; Reactive hyperemia;

    Abstract : Introduction: The mechanism of post ischemic reactive hyperemia is still unknown but now thought to be multifactorial and perhaps involving purinergic signalling. Purines such as ATP and ADP have recently been discovered to play a vital role in the regulation of vascular tone. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on sitting pressure and buttock microcirculation : aiming at developing an alarm in the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries

    Author : Johan Thorfinn; Disa Lidman; Folke Sjöberg; Henry Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Blood supply; Buttocks; Hyperemia; Ischemia; Laser-Doppler flowmetry; Microcirculation; Posture physiology; Pressure; Skin blood supply; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries are a major problem, the prevalence in this group being reported as high as 20 – 30 percent. Most pressure ulcers develop around the pelvic girdle, and the key-contributing factor in the development of pressure ulcers is ischaemia due to longstanding pressure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Preventing pressure ulcers by assessment of the microcirculation in tissue exposed to pressure

    Author : Sara Bergstrand; Margareta Lindgren; Anna-Christina Ek; Maria Engström; Lars-Göran Lindberg; Fredrik Huss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pressure ulcer; photoplethysmography; laser Doppler flowmetry; non-invasive; tissue blood flow; reactive hyperemia; pressure-induced vasodilation; interface pressure; risk assessment;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to combine optical methods into a system with the ability to simultaneously measure blood flow changes at different tissue depths. The goal of such a system was to reveal vascular mechanisms relevant to pressure ulcer etiology under clinically relevant conditions and in relation to the evaluation of pressure-redistribution support surfaces. 4. 4. Studies on antioxidant and lipid lowering effects on human microcirculation

    Author : Qing Lu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Microcirculation; oxidative stress; antioxidant; smoking. hypercholesterolemia; diabetes; vitamin C; Nacetylcysteine; lipid lowering; capillary blood flow velocity; post reactive hyperemia; endothelial function.;

    Abstract : In previous work from this laboratory, vital microscopy was successfully used to study rnicrocirculatcry effects of hypercholesterolemia in a rabbit model. Hypercholesterolemia caused a dramatic depression of the blood flow velocity in the conjunctiva microvessels of the rabbits. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vascular functions in infants, children and their mothers

    Author : Helena Martin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The function of the microvascular system was studied during early postnatal circulatory adaptation and in early-onset neonatal sepsis. We also studied large and small artery functions in infants and schoolchildren of low birthweight, a risk factor related to later development of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. READ MORE
