1. Disentangling Lecania
Abstract : This thesis focuses on phylogenetic, taxonomic, ecological, and conservation aspects of the crustose lichen genus Lecania (Ramalinaceae, lichenized Ascomycota). Lecania has previously been defined on basis of relatively few morphological characters, and the genus had never been treated in molecular phylogenies. READ MORE

2. Elimination of circulation IgA and IgS immune complexes : An experimental study in mice, rats and guinea pigs
Abstract : Immune complexes were formed between dinitrophenyl- (DNP-) conjugated human serum albumin (HSA) and anti-DNP antibodies (monoclonal mouse IgA or polyclonal rabbit IgG). Blood clearance and tissue distribution of intravenously injected labelled antigen and immunecomplex preparations were studied in mice, rats and guinea pigs. READ MORE

3. Fc receptors and immunoglobulins in polyarthritis : A matter of function, supply and demand?
Abstract : Fc receptors (FcR) and immunoglobulins (Ig) play important roles in the defence against pathogens. However, altered interactions of these may promote chronic inflammation in rheumatic diseases. An excess of Igs forming immune complexes (IC) could lead to continuous FcR activation and spreading of autoimmune inflammation to other tissues. READ MORE

4. Site-Dependent Effects in High-Accuracy Applications of GNSS
Abstract : Global Navigation Satellite Systems, GNSS are used in many applications demanding millimetre-level accuracy in positioning. Such applications include monitoring of crustal movements. The GNSS technique also facilitates estimates of the tropospheric water vapour content, an important parameter in numerical weather predictions and climate research. READ MORE

5. Guardians of the genome : Connecting chromatin structure and genome integrity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : Branched DNA structures arise during recombination and during other DNA repair processes such as repair of stalled replication forks. One branched structure, the Holliday Junction (HJ), is a four-way junction that can connect sister chromatids or homologous chromosomes. We show a physical interaction between the HJ-cleaving enzyme Yen1 and Uls1. READ MORE
