    Abstract : Knowledge of dynamics in protein is very important in the description of protein function and molecular recognition. The thesis investigates protein dynamics on time-scales from milli- to sub-nanosecond, with focus on the latter, using NMR spin relaxation experiments on two proteins, the 138-residue carbohydrate recognition domain of galectin-3 (Gal3C) and the 56-residue B1 domain of bacterial protein G (PGB1). 2. 2. Conformational Entropy and Protein Flexibility in Drug Design Studied by NMR Spectroscopy

    Author : Carl Diehl; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MMP-12; Galectin-3; confomational entropy; order parameters; ITC; Protein dynamics; isothermal titration calorimetry; macrophage elastase; nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR;

    Abstract : Proteins are complex molecules, present in all of the vital functions of life. The function of a protein is regulated by interactions between protein and other molecules. Drug design in pharmaceutical science aims to regulate the function of a protein by the design of synthesized molecules that binds to a protein with high affinity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human Fetal Hemoglobin : Biochemical Characterization and Recombinant Production

    Author : Khuanpiroon Ratanasopa; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Blood substitutes; HBOCs; HbF; recombinant hemoglobin; pseudoperoxidase; ITC; haptoglobin;

    Abstract : Blood transfusion is a common medical procedure when oxygen supply in the body is impaired. However, blood transfusion is not always without risks. The uncontrolled spreading of blood borne pathogens such as HIV or hepatitis B and C virus has urged researchers to look for “blood substitutes”. READ MORE

  4. 4. Polyamine Pathway as Drug Target against Malaria

    Author : Janina Sprenger; Biogena aminer; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amino acid insertions; Crystallography; polyamine pathway; drug design; enzyme inhibition; ITC; ligand binding; malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; S-Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase; spermidine synthase.;

    Abstract : Malaria, caused by the protozoan parasite Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for about 600.000 death cases every year. Mainly affected are populations of subtropical countries in Africa and the largest groups of victims are children below the age of 5 years. READ MORE

  5. 5. Folding and interaction studies of subunits in protein complexes

    Author : Ximena Aguilar; Stefan Björklund; Alexis Verger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macromolecular crowding; cpn10; Mediator; Med25; Dreb2a; VP16; conformational changes; NMR; ITC.; biokemi; Biochemistry; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Proteins function as worker molecules in the cell and their natural environment is crowded. How they fold in a cell-like environment and how they recognize their interacting partners in such conditions, are questions that underlie the work of this thesis. READ MORE
