  1. 1. Modulation of B cell access to antigen by passively administered antibodies : an explanation for antibody feedback regulation?

    Author : Hui Xu; Birgitta Heyman; Helena Harris; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgG; IgG3; IgE; suppression; enhancement; epitope masking; antigen transport; antigen presentation; follicular B cells; marginal zone B cells; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Antibody responses can be up- or down-regulated by passive administration of specific antibody together with antigen. Depending on the structure of the antigen and the antibody isotype, responses can be completely suppressed or enhanced up to a 1000-fold of what is seen in animals immunized with antigen alone. 2. 2. Antibodies during pregnancy : Aspects on complications during pregnancy and complications related to transfusion

    Author : Miodrag Palfi; Olof Sjöberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Pregnancy; Thl; Th2; hernolytic disease of the newborn; anti-D; IgG subclasses; IgG transport; post-transfusion reactions; acute lung injury; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The fetus acquires half of its genetic infonnation from the father and represents a foreign graft in pregnancy. The overall mechanisms contributing to immunologic tolerance and successful pregancy still are an enigma. Accumulating results of immunologic research, however, offer an explanation for many events in pregnancy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Early Immunostimulatory Effects of IgE- and IgG Antibodies

    Author : Fredrik Hjelm; Birgitta Heyman; Sandra Kleinau; Robert Harris; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; Antibodies; Fc receptors; Antigen presentation; B cells; T cells; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Antibodies have the ability to influence their own production in a process called antibody feedback regulation. Depending on the type of antigen and the subclass of the antibody, the outcome of feedback regulation can be complete suppression or several hundred-fold enhancement of the antibody response. 4. 4. Evolutionary and functional studies of protein H: a surface molecule of Streptococcus pyogenes

    Author : Inga-Maria Frick; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intracellular transportation; adhesion; aggregation; FNIII domain; albumin-binding; M-like protein; convergent evolution; protein G; Streptococcus pyogenes; IgG-binding; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Several bacterial species express surface proteins with affinity for the Fc part of human IgG. This thesis describes evolutionary and functional studies of protein H, an IgGFc-binding surface protein of the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. READ MORE

  5. 5. IgG3 Complements IgM in the Complement-Mediated Regulation of Immune Responses

    Author : Lu Zhang; Birgitta Heyman; Jenny Hallgren; Frida Henningsson; Kristina Lejon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgG3; IgM; marginal zone B cells; follicular dendritic cells; complement receptors 1 and 2; C1q; C3; antigen transport; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : An intact complement system is essential for the initiation of a normal antibody response. Antibodies can regulate their own production against the antigens that they are specific for. Both IgG3 and IgM are able to enhance the antibody response via complement. READ MORE
