  1. 1. Modelling Chemical Weathering in Different Scales

    Author : Johan Holmqvist; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biochemical technology; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Sustainable biomass production; Kriging; Illite; Epidote; Chemical weathering; Dissolution; Biokemisk teknik; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Abstract : Chemical weathering is one of the most important processes supporting life on Earth. Chemical weathering continuously contributes macronutrients and micronutrients to the soil solution. These recycling, essential elements are used as building blocks for all organic living matter. 2. 2. Thermal history of the Phanerozoic sedimentary succession of Skåne, southern Sweden, and implications for applied geology

    Author : Ingela Olsson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi; Petrology; organic matter reflectance; organic geochemistry; illite crystallinity; clay mineralogy; thermal history; Phanerozoicum; Skåne; Sweden;

    Abstract : Post-depositional thermal conditions have been investigated throughout the Phanerozoic sedimentary succession in Skåne. Clay mineralogy and illite crystallinity have been the main tools for the Lower Palaeozoic strata. Within the Mesozoic sequence thermal influence was examined using RockEval pyrolysis and vitrinite reflectance analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Surface complexation in natural particle suspensions

    Author : Qing Du; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is a summary of our studies on (i) the proton and copper adsorption at aqueous illite surfaces, (ii) the proton and copper complexation of humic substances (fulvic acid FA and humic acid HA), (iii) the interaction between illite and fulvic acid, and (iv) the copper complexation behaviors in illite-FA bi-complexant systems. These particular studies were designed to help us develop a framework for modelling heavy metal complexation/adsorption mechanisms at natural particle surfaces. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface reactions of natural illites from different origins

    Author : Wenxin Liu; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : Studies of natural illites from different origins were performed, including surface acid-base properties, determination of total inorganic carbonates, and spectroscopic investigations of chemical and structural nature as well as alterations of surface properties by acid-base titration. Using surface complexation model, the fitting results showed that the acid-base behavior of aqueous illite surfaces was dominated by deprotonation procedure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mineral diagenesis and petrology of the Dala Sandstone, central Sweden

    Author : Ala Aldahan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The Dala Sandstone, of Proterozoic age, is the most extensive sedimentary unit in central Sweden. The rocks are quartz sandstones, lithic sandstones, feldspathic sandstones, arkoses and greywackes with intercalations of shales and siltstones less than 1 m thick. The Öje Basalt divides the sedimentary sequence into two parts. READ MORE
