  1. 1. Imaging the pancreas : new aspects on lobular development and adult constitution

    Author : Andreas Hörnblad; Ulf Ahlgren; Guy Rutter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; ß-cell mass; tertiary lymphoid organs; biomedical imaging; optical projection tomography; morphogenesis; pancreas development; gastric lobe; spleen development.; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Abstract : The mouse pancreas is a mixed exocrine and endocrine glandconsisting of three lobular compartments: the splenic, duodenal and gastric lobes. During embryogenesis, the pancreas forms from two progenitor populations located on the dorsal and ventral side of the primitive gut tube. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genes to remember : imaging genetics of hippocampus-based memory functions

    Author : Karolina Kauppi; Lars Nyberg; Jonas Persson; Guillén Fernández; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Imaging genetics; fMRI; Episodic memory; SNP; KIBRA; BDNF; APOE; Hippocampus; Parahippocampus;

    Abstract : In the field of imaging genetics, brain function and structure are used as intermediate phenotypes between genes and cognition/diseases to validate and extend findings from behavioral genetics. In this thesis, three of the strongest candidate genes for episodic memory, KIBRA, BDNF, and APOE, were examined in relation to memory performance and hippocampal/parahippocampal fMRI blood-oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) signal. 3. 3. Transcriptome-wide analysis in cells and tissues

    Author : Sanja Vickovic; Afshin Ahmadian; Itai Yanai; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA-sequencing; single cells; spatially resolved transcriptomics; 3D profiling.; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : High-throughput sequencing has greatly influenced the amount of data produced and biological questions asked and answered. Sequencing approaches have also enabled rapid development of related technological fields such as single-cell and spatially resolved expression profiling. READ MORE

  4. 4. Single Molecule Detection : Microfluidic Automation and Digital Quantification

    Author : Malte Kühnemund; Mats Nilsson; Ulf Landegren; Sten Linnarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; single molecule; digital; rolling circle amplification; magnetic particle; padlock probe; microfluidics; resistive pulse sensing; lab on chip; mobile phone microscopy; enrichment; sequencing;

    Abstract : Much of recent progress in medical research and diagnostics has been enabled through the advances in molecular analysis technologies, which now permit the detection and analysis of single molecules with high sensitivity and specificity. Assay sensitivity is fundamentally limited by the efficiency of the detection method used for read-out. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic and molecular alterations in aldosterone producing adenomas

    Author : Ravi Kumar Dutta; Peter Söderkvist; Oliver Gimm; Ute Scholl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Aldosterone producing tumors (APA, also known as Conn tumors) are adrenal tumors that overproduce aldosterone, a hormone that regulates the sodium levels in blood and contributes to blood pressure (BP) regulation. Excessive production of aldosterone causes hypertension and approximately 5-15% of hypertensive patients have hyperaldosteronism, known as primary aldosteronism (PA). READ MORE
