1. Biophysical studies of pigment transport in frog melanophores : impedance measurements and advanced microscopy analyses
Abstract : Small proteins, other molecules and large organelles are frequently transported from one location to another within cells. These transports employ cytoskeletal networks and enable cells to maintain regions with different functions and attain an asymmetrical shape. READ MORE

2. Electrical Bioimpedance Cerebral Monitoring: Fundamental Steps towards Clinical Application
Abstract : Neurologically related injuries cause a similar number of deaths as cancer, and brain damage is the second commonest cause of death in the world and probably the leading cause of permanent disability. The devastating effects of most cases of brain damage could be avoided if it were detected and medical treatment initiated in time. READ MORE

3. Detecting Inclusions in a Silicone Rubber Phantom Using Standing Lamb Waves and Multiple Frequency Footprints
Abstract : The thesis deals with one major question: is it possible, using one piezoelectric sensor/vibrator, to detect a hard inclusion in a silicone rubber phantom? The question was approached with an open mind and the task was subdivided into three clearly identifiable parts: characterization of the piezoelectric sensor/vibrator (paper I), creating a model of the visco-elastic properties of a tissue-like material (phantom) in contact with the sensor/vibrator (paper II), and to detect the presence of a hard inclusion in the phantom (paper III). All vibrations of the sensor/vibrator and phantom was modeled using a finite element method (FEM). READ MORE

4. Near infrared and skin impedance spectroscopic in vivo measurements on human skin : development of a diagnostic tool for skin cancer
Abstract : Every year approximately 2800 Swedes are diagnosed with malignant melanoma, the form of cancer that is most rapidly increasing in incidence in the Western world. The earlier we can identify and diagnose a malignant melanoma, the better is the prognosis. READ MORE

5. Electrical impedance of human skin and tissue alterations : mathematical modeling and measurements
Abstract : The overall aim of the studies in this thesis is twofold. One is oriented towards calibrating a classifier in differentiating between malignant melanoma and benign nevi of the skin. READ MORE
