  1. 1. The Mussel Adhesive Protein (Mefp-1) : A GREEN Corrosion Inhibitor

    Author : Fan Zhang; Jinshan Pan; Douglas C. Hansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon steel; mussel adhesive protein; Mefp-1; inhibitor; adsorption; film forming; complexation; cross-linking; ceria nanoparticle; composite film; EIS; AFM; QCM-D; ATR-FTIR; Confocal Raman Micro-spectroscopy; DFT calculation;

    Abstract : Corrosion of metallic materials is a natural process, and our study shows that even in an alkaline environment severe corrosion may occur on a carbon steel surface. While corrosion cannot be stopped it can be retarded. READ MORE

  2. 2. Proteins of the Inter-α-inhibitor Family : Biosynthesis, Plasma Clearance and Interaction with Extracellular Matrix Components

    Author : Aneta Kaczmarczyk; Erik Fries; Anders Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; bikunin; inter-α-inhibitor; pre-α-inhibitor; intracellular processing; plasma clearance; extracellular matrix; binding; collagen; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Bikunin, a chondroitin sulfate-containing protein of 25 kDa, has protease inhibitory activity and occurs in the plasma in free and complexed form. In inter-α-inhibitor (IαI) and pre-a-inhibitor (PαI) it is covalently linked through its chondroitin sulfate (CS) chain to two or one other polypeptide of about 80 kDa – heavy chains 1 and 2 (H1, H2) and heavy chain 3 (H3) – respectively. 3. 3. Peptide-Based Inhibitors of Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Serine Protease: Kinetic Aspects and Inhibitor Design

    Author : Anton Poliakov; Helena Danielson; Boris Turk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; serine protease; inhibitor; slow-binding; protein purification; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Hepatitis C is a serious disease that affects about 200 million people worldwide. No anti-HCV vaccine or specific anti-viral drugs are available today. Non-structural protein 3 (NS3) of HCV is a bifunctional serine protease/helicase, and the protease has become a prime target in the search for anti-HCV drugs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intracellular processing of pre-a-inhibitor

    Author : Maria Thuveson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; pre-alpha-inhibitor; heavy chain 3; bikunin; intracellular processing; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Pre-α-inhibitor (PαI) is a plasma protein consisting of a 25 and a 75 kDa polypeptide: bikunin and heavy chain 3 (H3), respectively. Both these polypeptides are made by hepatocytes and while passing through the Golgi complex, bikunin, which carries a chondroitin sulfate chain, becomes covalently linked to the C-terminal amino acid residue of H3 via its polysaccharide.
