1. Innovations in nanomaterials for proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Abstract : Hydrogen technologies are rapidly receiving increased attention as it offers a renewable energy alternative to the current petroleum-based fuel infrastructure, considering that continued large-scale use of such fossil fuels will lead to disastrous impacts on our environment. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell should play a significant role in a hydrogen economy since it enables convenient and direct conversion of hydrogen into electricity, thus allowing the use of hydrogen in applications particularly suited for the transportation industry. 2. Materials prepared using graphite oxides : properties and applications
Abstract : Graphite oxides are hydrophilic materials, which have attracted a lot of attention due to unique properties and possible applications. The current thesis includes studies of fundamental properties and applications of graphite oxides as well as materials prepared from graphite oxides such as graphene oxide membranes, defect-rich graphite oxide, reduced graphene oxide and activated reduced graphene oxide. 3. The Electronic Structure of Organic Molecular Materials : Theoretical and Spectroscopic Investigations
Abstract : In the present thesis the electronic properties of two organic molecules were studied by means of density functional theory (DFT) in connection to their possible applications in organic photovoltaics and molecular spintronics respectively. The first analysed system is the C60 derivative PCBM extensively used in polymer solar cells for the charge separation process. 4. Doing Physics - Doing Gender : An Exploration of Physics Students' Identity Constitution in the Context of Laboratory Work
Abstract : In Sweden today women are greatly under-represented within university physics and the discipline of physics is also symbolically associated with men and masculinity. This motivates in-depth investigations of issues of physics, learning and gender. READ MORE

5. In Situ Soft X-ray Spectroscopies Applied to Atmospheric Corrosion And Related Systems
Abstract : This thesis concerns the application of various soft x-ray spectroscopic methods (soft x-ray absorption, SXA, and emission, SXE) to complex, non-vacuum compatible systems, including liquids and multi-phase systems. The design, construction, and application of new instrumentation for in situ spectroscopy is described in detail. READ MORE
