  1. 1. Mechanisms of Integrin Signal Transduction

    Author : Anne Stefansson; Staffan Johansson; Annika Armulik; Björn Öbrink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Integrin; Integrin signalling; PI3K; Akt PKB; Integrin transmembrane domain; cell spreading; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Integrins are a protein family of cell surface receptors, expressed in all cell types in the human body, except the red blood cells. Besides their importance in mediating physical connections with the surrounding environment, the integrin family members are also vital signalling mediators. READ MORE

  2. 2. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Author : Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 3. 3. Complement activation - good or evil in HIV-1 infection? : interaction of free and complement opsonized HIV-1 with monocyte derived dendritic cells and immune cells in the cervical mucosa

    Author : Veronica Tjomsland; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Barbara Shacklett; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Worldwide, the heterosexual route is the most common mode of sexual transmission of HIV-1 and women are particularly susceptible to this infection. After penetration of the mucosal epithelium HIV-1 interacts with potential target cells, i.e. dendritic cells (DCs) and CD4+ T cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor

    Author : Shahram Hedjazifar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-erbB2; integrin á2â1; cell-matrix; integrin conformation; PKB; ERK; Rho; ILK; Nck-2;

    Abstract : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line. 5. 5. Cellular Interactions with Extracellular Matrix During Development and in Muscle Disease

    Author : Carl-Fredrik Tiger; Anders Aspberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; integrin; laminin; collagen; muscle; tendon; skeleton; mouse; human; development; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The formation and maintenance of tissues in multicellular animals are crucially dependent on cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two different studies on such interactions are presented herein. READ MORE
