  1. 1. Isolated regional perfusion for metastases of malignant melanoma - Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Roger Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant melanoma; Uveal melanoma; Isolated limb perfusion; Isolated hepatic perfusion; Immunology; Exosomes;

    Abstract : Background: Isolated regional perfusion is a treatment option mainly for localized metastatic disease. The principle idea is to surgically isolate a region of the body and connect the circulation to a heart-lung machine. A high concentration of a chemotherapeutic agent is then delivered to the tumour, while systemic toxicity is avoided. READ MORE

  2. 2. Immunological effects of isolated regional perfusion in malignant melanoma

    Author : Junko Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Melanoma; Isolated regional perfusion; ILP; IHP; Melphalan; Immunogenic cell death; T cells; Monocytes; ISG;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma patients with metastatic disease confined to the limbs or liver may be treated with hyperthermic isolated regional perfusion with a chemotherapeutic agent, most commonly melphalan. This procedure enables much higher tissue concentrations of the chemotherapeutic agent compared with systemic administration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of individualized surgical treatments for malignant melanoma

    Author : Valerio Belgrano; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Melanoma; sentinel node; isolated limb perfusion; immune-humanized xenograft mouse models; translational research;

    Abstract : Background: Cutaneous melanoma is a malignancy with an increasing incidence worldwide, especially in northern Europe. The aim of this thesis is to scrutinize the results achieved by traditional surgery and the opportunities offered by translational research for the more advanced stages of the disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Desmoid tumors. New aspects on diagnostic procedures, treatment and outcome

    Author : Mikael Dalén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : desmoid; fibromatosis; surgery; radiotherapy; chemotherapy; statistics; imaging; studies; cytology; biopsy; pathology;

    Abstract : Desmoid tumor (aggressive fibromatosis) is a rare, benign fibroblastic/myofibroblasticneoplasm that originates from musculoaponeurotic structures. It never metastasizes but locallygrows aggressively and infiltrates surrounding tissues. The treatment of choice has beensurgery. However, local recurrences are frequent. READ MORE
