    Abstract : Non-coding RNAs are highly abundant regulators of gene expression in all kingdoms of life that often play important roles in vital cellular functions. In bacteria, small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) usually act post-transcriptionally by regulating mRNAs through base pairing within ribosome binding sites (RBS), thereby inhibiting translation initiation. 2. 2. Vessel occlusion and functional outcome after acute stroke : prediction and evaluation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Charith Cooray; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2017]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the acute setting of ischaemic stroke, two proven treatments are available: intravenous thrombolysis (iv-tPA) with alteplase and endovascular thrombectomy. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the associations between symptom severity in the acute setting of ischaemic stroke and 1) the presence of arterial occlusions and 2) long-term functional outcome assessed at 3 months. 3. 3. Large cerebral artery occlusion and recanalisation in stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis : clinical and radiological markers and their clinical relevance

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Tatiana Kharitonova; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Large cerebral artery occlusion accounts for 40-46% of ischemic strokes. These strokes are characterized by extensive neurological deficit, poor functional outcome, and increased mortality (up to 40-80% in the most severe clinical syndromes). READ MORE

  4. 4. Intracerebral hemorrhage in patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Michael V. Mazya; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Background. Nearly 30000 people suffer a stroke in Sweden every year. Stroke is the third most common cause of death after heart disease and cancer carrying a 17% mortality rate at three months. It is the most common cause of neurological disability in adults. READ MORE
