1. Theoretical Studies of Surface Forces and Phase Equilibria
Abstract : The interaction between large hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces in aqueous solution is investigated, using Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory. Special attention is devoted to the solvation force and its dependence on the nature of the solvent-solvent and solvent-surface interactions. READ MORE

2. Computer Simulations of Polymer Gels : Structure, Dynamics, and Deformation
Abstract : This thesis presents the results of computer simulation studies of the structure, dynamics, and deformation of cross-linked polymer gels. Obtaining a fundamental understanding of the interrelation between the detailed structure and the properties of polymer gels is a challenge and a key issue towards designing materials for specific purposes. 3. Interfacial properties of calcium montmorillonite in aqueous solutions : Density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics studies on the electric double layer
Abstract : The swelling properties of Bentonite are highly affected by clay content and the clay-water interactions that arise from the ion distribution in the diffuse double layer formed near the charged montmorillonite (or smectite) surfaces. Existing continuum models describing the electric double layers, such as classical Poisson-Boltzmann and DLVO theory, ignore the ion-ion correlations, which are especially important for multivalent ions at high surface charge and ionic strength. 4. Suggestions for innovation in the supplying of joinery products through the application of Lean-thinking and 3-D sensing
Abstract : The supplying of engineer-to-order joinery products to the construction industry is a novel research area in both the wood-related and the construction-related fields. The process of supplying the construction industry with highly refined one-of-a-kind wood products is here examined in order to explore possible process innovations to identify factors contributing to inefficiency, to define areas for innovation to improve industry performance, and to evaluate 3-D sensing technologies as a way of achieving a model-based joinery production. 5. Laser welding of aluminium alloys
Abstract : This thesis treats laser welding of aluminium alloys from a practical perspective with elements of mathematical analysis. The theoretical work has in all cases been verified experimentally. The aluminium alloys studied are from the 5xxx and 6xxx groups which are common for example in the automotive industry. READ MORE
