  1. 1. Ultrasound and atherosclerosis. Evaluation of methods, risk factors and intervention

    Author : Jerker Persson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; validation; ultrasound; reproducibility; progression; plaque; intima-media thickness; intervention; atherosclerosis; epidemiology; cardiovascular risk factors; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : The importance of studying cardiovascular disease before the process leads to hard end-points has been recognised, and methods to quantify early atherosclerosis have been taken in use in many research centres around the world. An ultrasound method with a computer assisted image analysing system was developed in co-operation with the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular Research and Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. 2. 2. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time-Varying Excitation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Måns Ehrenberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is to explore and use the benefits of time-varying excitation in fluorescence spectroscopy for studies of biomolecular dynamics. Two new techniques taking advantage of modulated excitation are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. Intervention for improved newborn feeding and survival where HIV is common : Perceptions and effects of a community-based package for maternal and newborn care in a South African township

    Author : Petrida Ijumba; Lars-Ake Persson; Debra Jackson; Mark Tomlinson; Jerker Liljestrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV; Community Health Workers; Exclusive breastfeeding; Formula feeding; South Africa;

    Abstract : South Africa recently changed infant feeding policy within Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV from free formula to recommendation of breastfeeding for all. The country is evaluating the role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in supporting mothers and newborns. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intra-Representational Practice : An Inquiry into the Conditions for the Possibility of Interdisciplinary Imaginative Collaborative Architectural Modeling in Sustainable Urban Design

    Author : Pehr-Mikael Sällström; Daniel Koch; Helene Frichot; Gunilla Almström Persson; Isabelle Doucet; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Practice epistemology; Architecture; Urban design; Collaborative modeling; Interdisciplinary imagination; Communicative interaction; Representation; Distributed cognition; Intermodal communication; Trans-discourse.; Praktisk kunskap; Arkitektur; Stadsbyggnad; Kollaborativ modellering; Interdisciplinär föreställning; Kommunikativ interaktion; Representation; Distribuerad kognition; Intermodal kommunikation; Trans-diskurs; Arkitektonisk gestaltning; Architectural Design;

    Abstract : A consequence of the concern for a sustainable future is that the number of experts needed to be included in the imaginative stage of architectural modeling is rising. This motivates a better understanding of the conditions for the possibility of transgressive collaborative plural imagination in architectural modeling. READ MORE
