1. Jet Ventilation for Airway Surgery : The Influence of Mode and Frequency on Ventilation Efficacy
Abstract : In surgery for airway obstruction, the anesthetist and the ear-nose-throat surgeon share the approach to the airway and jet ventilation (JV) is a mutually convenient ventilation technique for both parties. As a consequence of the open system jet ventilation is applied in, bedside measurements of lung volumes are cumbersome to perform and thus, there is a lack of studies comparing different modes of JV or investigating the influence of ventilator settings on lung volumes and gas exchange. 2. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers
Abstract : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. READ MORE

3. Genetic and environmental factors influencing the risk and course of eating disorders
Abstract : Eating disorders are debilitating conditions characterized by dysregulated eating and/or weight-control behaviors leading to significant impairment of psychosocial functioning and/or physical health. Both environmental factors and variation in multiple genetic variants of small to moderate effect influence eating disorder etiology and maintenance. READ MORE

4. Pedestal structure and stability in JET-ILW and comparison with JET-C
Abstract : Controlled thermonuclear fusion offers a promising concept for safe and sustainable production of electrical energy. However, there are still many issues to be investigated on the way to a commercial fusion reactor. An important point for detailed studies is connected to wall materials surrounding hot thermonuclear plasma. READ MORE

5. Jet lag and shiftwork : their effects on sleep & sleepiness
Abstract : The aim of the studies was to describe the detailed sleep/wake patterns before, during, and after a period of work that forces individuals to deviate from their normal sleep/wake pattern. Possible countermeasures to experienced problems was evaluated in intervention designs. READ MORE
