  2. 2. Quantum effects in nanoscale Josephson junction circuits

    Author : Silvia Corlevi; David B. Haviland; Jukka Pekola; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junctions; Josephson junction arrays; electromagnetic environment; Cooper pair transistor; parity effects; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of an experimental study on single-charge effects in nanoscale Josephson junctions and Cooper pair transistors (CPTs). In nanoscale Josephson junctions the charging energy EC becomes significant at sub-Kelvin temperatures and single-charge effects, such as the Coulomb blockade of Cooper pair tunneling, influence the transport properties. 3. 3. Interactions and Interference in Mesoscopic Systems: Josephson Current through Quantum Dots and Josephson Junction Arrays

    Author : Klas Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density functional theory; quantum dots; Josephson effect; Andreev reflection; mesoscopic superconductivity; Josephson junction array; coulomb interactions; Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation; quantum phase transition;

    Abstract : The focus of the thesis is on the interplay between interactions and interference effects in mesoscopic systems. More specifically, the two main projects included deal with Coulomb interactions and Josephson effect in two superconductor-normal metal systems: (i) a Josephson junction array and (ii) a superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) system in which the normal part is a quantum dot. 4. 4. Superradiant THz wave emission from arrays of Josephson junctions

    Author : Ievgenii Borodianskyi; Vladimir Krasnov; Yury Shukrinov; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junction; Superconductor; ThZ emission; high-Tc; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : High-power, continuous-wave, compact and tunable THz sources are needed for a large variety of applications. Development of power-efficient sources of electromagnetic radiation in the 0.1-10 THz range is a difficult technological problem, known as the “THz gap. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of aperiodic order for Josephson junction arrays and discrete breathers

    Author : Erik Lennholm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Aperiodic order; Josephson junction array; Discrete breather;

    Abstract : Effects of the combination of nonlinearities and aperiodic order is studied in this thesis. The nonlinear systems considered are Josephson junction arrays (JJA) and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) lattices. Both systems are discrete and one-dimensional. The traveling waves in a JJA are solitons, i.
