  1. 1. Deactivation of cobalt and nickel catalysts in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and methanation

    Author : Javier Barrientos; Magali Boutonnet; Claude Mirodatos; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cobalt; nickel; Fischer-Tropsch synthesis; methanation; deactivation; carbonyl; sintering; carbon fomation. sulfur; poisoning; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract :             A potential route for converting different carbon sources (coal, natural gas and biomass) into synthetic fuels is the transformation of these raw materials into synthesis gas (CO and H2), followed by a catalytic step which converts this gas into the desired fuels. The present thesis has focused on two catalytic steps: Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) and methanation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effects of trace elements in biodiesel on the performance of diesel oxidation catalysts in heavy-duty vehicles

    Author : Jonas Granestrand; Lars Pettersson; Todd J. Toops; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel Oxidation catalyst; heavy-duty vehicles; catalyst deactivation; biodiesel; NAP-XPS; XANES; Phosphorus; alkali metals; Pt Pd Al2O3; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : To reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, a shift towards adoption of biofuels is ongoing in the transport sector. Heavy-duty diesel vehicles are equipped with aftertreatment equipment, comprising of catalysts and filters, and how this equipment is affected by the use of biofuels is not yet fully understood. 3. 3. Catalytic conversion of biomass-derived synthesis gas to liquid fuels

    Author : Rodrigo Suárez París; Magali Boutonnet; Agustín Martínez Feliu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuels; Fischer-Tropsch wax; higher alcohols; hydroconversion; kinetic modelling; methanol cofeeding; microemulsion; MoS2; noble metal; syngas; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Climate change is one of the biggest global threats of the 21st century. Fossil fuels constitute by far the most important energy source for transportation and the different governments are starting to take action to promote the use of cleaner fuels. READ MORE

  4. 4. Catalytic conversion of syngas to higher alcohols over MoS2-based catalysts

    Author : Robert Andersson; Magali Boutonnet; Sven Järås; Anders Holmen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conversion; higher alcohols; mixed alcohols; MoS2; syngas; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis concerns catalytic conversion of syngas (H2+ CO) into a blend of methanol and higher alcohols, an attractive way of producing fuels and chemicals. This route has the potential to reduce the oil dependence in the transport sector and, with the use of biomass for the syngas generation, produce CO2-neutral fuels. READ MORE

  5. 5. RhPt and Ni based catalysts for fuel reforming in energy conversion

    Author : Angélica Viviana González Arcos; Lars J. Pettersson; Klas Engvall; Anker Jensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RhPt bimetallic catalysts; Ni catalysts; ceria-zirconia; potassium tungsten bronze; zirconium dioxide; autothermal reforming; biodiesel; diesel; sulfur; deactivation; tar reforming; steam reforming; biomass gasification; auxiliary power units; naphthalene; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Although current trends in global warming are of great concern, energy demand is still increasing, resulting in increasing pollutant emissions. To address this issue, we need reliable renewable energy sources, lowered pollutant emissions, and efficient and profitable processes for energy conversion. READ MORE
