1. Methodology for evaluation of hazards from solid waste and landfill-generated leachate
Abstract : A methodology based on an analytical protocol for evaluation of hazards from landfill leachate and solid waste is described. A dynamic analytical protocol, the LAQUA protocol, including measurements of inorganic and water-quality parameters, polar and non-polar organic marker compounds, and toxicity, was constructed. 2. Life History Strategies in Linnaea borealis
Abstract : About 70% of the plant species in the temperate zone are characterised by clonal growth, clonal species are also in majority in the Arctic and Subarctic where they affect the structure and composition of the vegetation. It is therefore of great importance to increase our knowledge about clonal plants and their growth and life histories. READ MORE

3. Aspects of chronic autoimmune thyroiditis in children and adolescents
Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to 1) compare different methods for detection of antibodies against thyroglobulin (TgAb) and thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb), particulary in children with chronic autoimmune thyroditis (AIT), 2) investigate if maternal enterovirus infection is a risk factor for development of AIT in offspring, 3) ascertain the prevalence of thyroid autoantibodies in cord blood sera from children who later developed AIT, 4) develop a new reference standard for interpretation of normative thyroid volumes in Swedish children, and 5) evaluate the effect of Levothyroxine (L-thyroxine) treatment on thyroid size in children and adolescents with AIT. We found that 1) Methods based on radioimmunoassay (RIA) were more efficient in detecting both TgAb and TPOAb in children with AIT than methods based on agglutination. READ MORE

4. Studies of bacterial surface proteins interacting with the immune system
Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria express a wide array of surface proteins that interact with the environment. Many of these proteins are believed to be important for the virulence. This thesis deals with the binding of immunoglobulins (Ig) and complement regulating proteins to certain bacterial surface proteins. READ MORE

5. Physiological effects of conditioned medium and passage number on Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 serum free cultures
Abstract : The aim of this study was to better understand the role of conditioned medium (CM) in Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 insect cell proliferation and recombinant protein production using the baculovirus expression system. CM was found to stimulate cell proliferation. READ MORE
