1. Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for eigenvalues of Schrödinger operators
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to quantitative questions about the discrete spectrum of Schrödinger-type operators. In Paper I we show that the Lieb-Thirring inequalities on moments of negative eigen¬values remain true, with possibly different constants, when the critical Hardy weight is subtracted from the Laplace operator. 2. Regulation of exocytosis by Ca2+ and cAMP - A study on pancreatic beta- and alpha-cells
Abstract : Type-2 diabetes is characterized by impaired insulin secretion associated with excess glucagon release. Exocytosis of insulin- or glucagon-containing granules is initiated by Ca2+-influx through voltage-dependent Ca2+-channels and is modulated by the second messengers such as cAMP. READ MORE

3. Aspects on the modulation of potassium channels in insulin-producing beta-cells
Abstract : This thesis attempts to further clarify mechanisms behind the negative effects of overstimulation and the beneficial effect of β-cell rest. For this purpose diazoxide - opener of K+-ATP channels, which reversibly inhibits glucose-induced insulin secretion, was used as a probe. READ MORE

4. A Novel Signal Model and Estimation Method for Acoustic Doppler Current Meters
Abstract : This thesis deals with the process of estimating underwater current from the backscattering signal transmitted from an ultrasonic transducer. The narrowband sinusoidal burst signal is Doppler-shifted due to the current, and this information is converted into current. READ MORE

5. Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of Nonlinear Flame Instability
Abstract : Flame instability is both important and difficult to understand. Mechanisms of instability are complex, because instability often involves an interaction between several different physical phenomena, such as an unsteady chemical reaction, unsteady flame propagation generating an unsteady flow, acoustic waves or shock waves.
