1. Aspects of immune activation in HIV-1 infection
Abstract : Abnormal immune system activation is central in HIV-1 pathogenesis leading to CD4+ T-cell depletion and inappropriate immune responses. Disease stage and HIV load strongly correlate with the immune activation level which decreases under antiretroviral therapy (ART). READ MORE

2. Regulation of HIV-1 provirus transcription
Abstract : Transcription of the HIV-genome is regulated by the interaction of viral long terminal repeat (LTR) cis-acting sequences with a complex of viral regulatory proteins and cellular transcription factors. The complex interplay between the cellular-, and/or viral proteins and LTR of different subtypes may play a role in the control of HIV-1 latency versus activation. READ MORE

3. Studies on nuclear factor 1 binding to nucleosomal DNA
Abstract : The organisation of DNA into chromatin will influence on transcriptional regulation. The first event in transcriptional activation is the binding of transcription factors to specific binding sites in the regulatory regions of the gene. READ MORE

4. Viral parameters influencing clinical long-term non progression in HIV-1 infected subjects
Abstract : A very small portion of the HIV-1 infected population is constituted by individuals, called long- term non progressors (LTNP), in whom after even a decade or more, no visible deterioration of the immune system is recognized and the infection remains therefore asymptomatic. The reasons for such "natural" prolonged well-being can be attributed to both the virus and the infected host and their understanding is likely to give important information for the development of an effective HIV- vaccine and for immune reconstitution therapy. 5. Retroviral long Terminal Repeats; Structure, Detection and Phylogeny
Abstract : Long terminal repeats (LTRs) are non-coding repeats flanking the protein-coding genes of LTR retrotransposons. The variability of LTRs poses a challenge in studying them. Hidden Markov models (HMMs), probabilistic models widely used in pattern recognition, are useful in dealing with this variability. READ MORE
