  1. 1. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder

    Author : Majd A. I. Mirza; Tobias Larsson; Tilman Drüeke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FGF23; FGF-23; CKD; CKD-MBD; cardiovascular disease; vascular function; atherosclerosis; hypertrophy; LVMI; LVH; fractures; bone; fat mass; obesity; apolipoproteins; cholesterol; lipids; Kidney diseases; Njursjukdomar; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 2. 2. Aortic valve replacement with stentless bioprostheses : prospective long-term studies of the Biocor and the Toronto SPV

    Author : Göran Dellgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Aortic valve disease is increasing among the elderly and aortic valve replacement is the most common cardiac surgical valve procedure in adults. Aortic stenosis (AS) is often associated with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in an unexplained pattern. READ MORE

  3. 3. Childhood malignant disease and consequences for growth hormone secretion, intellectual function and cardiovascular risk

    Author : Katarina Link; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone deficiency; Insulin sensitivity; Cranial radiotherapy; Neuropsychological performance; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia; diabetologi; sekretion; Endokrinologi;

    Abstract : In childhood onset growth hormone deficiency (GHD) a reduction in cardiac left ventricular mass (LVMi) and impairment of cardiac systolic function, as well as in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) has been shown. In study I, we showed that a low dose of GH treatment for 10 months resulted in increased LVMi and kidney size. READ MORE

  4. 4. Monitoring blood glucose and obesity in type 2 diabetes in primary care

    Author : Anders Tengblad; Carl Johan Östgren; Per Wändell; Linköpings universitet; []

  5. 5. Impact of chronic kidney disease on the cardiovascular system : studies in non-dialysis patients and healthy people

    Author : Anna Asp; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
