1. Clinical and experimental studies on oxidized fragrance terpenes as contact allergens
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims to improve the possibilities for diagnosing contact allergy to oxidized limonene and linalool and to, in patients, study contact allergy from structurally closely related hydroperoxides with regard to their specificity, potency and cross-reactivity. The fragrance terpenes limonene (from citrus oil) and linalool (from lavender oil) are widely used in household and industrial products. READ MORE

2. Contact allergy to fragrances. With a focus on hydroperoxides of linalool and hydroperoxides of limonene
Abstract : Patch testing with fragrance allergens has been performed for over half a century, and the protocol has been continually developed and standardised. Fragrance mixes I and II and Myroxylon pereirae resin are commonly used as screening fragrance allergens in patch testing. READ MORE

3. Citrus Waste Biorefinery: Process Development, Simulation and Economic Analysis
Abstract : The production of ethanol and other sustainable products including methane, limonene and pectin from citrus wastes (CWs) was studied in the present thesis. In the first part of the work, the CWs were hydrolyzed using enzymes – pectinase, cellulase and β-glucosidase – and the hydrolyzate was fermented using encapsulated yeasts in the presence of the inhibitor compound ‘limonene’. 4. Biotransformations of Turpentine Constituents : Oxygenation and Esterification
Abstract : This thesis describes methods to obtain valueaddedcompounds from TMP-turpentine obtained from the spruce, Piceaabies. The methodology focuses on biotransformations using twoapproaches: an oxygenation approach (i.e. oxygenation ofterpene hydrocarbons by cell cultures) and an esterificationapproach (i. READ MORE

5. Ethanol Production from Cellulosic Biomass by Encapsulated Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : Unstable oil markets with rising environmental concerns have revived widespread interest in production of fuel ethanol from renewable materials. Cellulosic materials are abundant and prominent feedstocks for cheap ethanol production. However, due to recalcitrant structure of these materials, pretreatment is a prerequisite. READ MORE
