  1. 1. Linear and non-linear dynamics of non-autonomous flows

    Author : J. Simon Kern; Dan S. Henningson; Ardeshir Hanifi; Peter J. Schmid; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Time-dependent flows; linear stability; non-linear dynamics; Floquet analysis; optimally time-dependent modes; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Fluid flows subject to time-dependent external forces or boundary conditions are ubiquitous in biology and technical applications. Whether one considers birds flying by flapping their wings or the gust response of wind turbines, the flow is non-autonomous. READ MORE

  2. 2. Born Small for Gestational Age : Impact of Linear Catch-up Growth

    Author : Maria Lundgren; Torsten Tuvemo; Sven Cnattingius; Björn Jonsson; Kerstin Albertsson-Wikland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Abstract : The purposes of the thesis were to study associations between size at birth, short adult stature and risks of subnormal intellectual performance, high blood pressure, and overweight among males, and to study associations between size at birth, short adult stature and risk of overweight and giving birth to small for gestational age (SGA) infants among females.The effect of short adult stature on intellectual performance among males was analyzed in two population-based cohort studies. 3. 3. Non-Linear Optical Titanyl Arsenates Crystal Growth and Properties

    Author : Jenni Nordborg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; top seeded solution growth; titanyl arsenates; ferroelectrics; KTP isomorphs; charge density; non-linear optical crystals;

    Abstract : Crystals are appreciated not only for their appearance, but also for their unique physical properties which are utilized by the photonic industry in appliances that we come across every day. An important part of enabling the technical use of optical devices is the manufacture of crystals. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantitative analysis of tumor growth and response to therapy

    Author : Esmaeil Mehrara; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tumor; growth; response; therapy; modeling; clinical;

    Abstract : Modeling the natural growth of tumors is of value for evaluation of tumor progression and optimization of treatment strategies. However, modeling tumor growth based on clinical data is hampered by the limited data available, since therapy is in general initiated as early as possible after diagnosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Stunted growth in children from fetal life to adolescence : Risk factors, consequences and entry points for prevention - Cohort studies in rural Bangladesh

    Author : Pernilla Svefors; Katarina Ekholm Selling; Eva-Charlotte Ekström; Torbjörn Lind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; stunting; linear growth; child health; undernutrition; Bangladesh; cost-effectiveness; data mining; puberty; prenatal interventions; global health; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Stunted growth affects one in four children under the age of five years and comes with great costs for the child and society. With an increased understanding of the long-term consequences of chronic undernutrition the reduction of stunted growth has become an important priority on the global health agenda. READ MORE
