  1. 1. Linear Models of Nonlinear Systems

    Author : Martin Enqvist; Lennart Ljung; Rik Pintelon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; linear models; nonlinear systems; system identification; stochastic processes; linearization; mean-square error; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Linear time-invariant approximations of nonlinear systems are used in many applications and can be obtained in several ways. For example, using system identification and the prediction-error method, it is always possible to estimate a linear model without considering the fact that the input and output measurements in many cases come from a nonlinear system. 2. 2. Model Selection and Sparse Modeling

    Author : Yngve Selén; Peter Stoica; Jean-Jacques Fuchs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; model selection; model order selection; model averaging; nested models; sparse models; Bayesian inference; MMSE estimation; MAP estimation; ML estimation; AIC; BIC; GIC; RAKE receivers; pulse compression; radar; linear models; linear regression models; Signal processing; Signalbehandling;

    Abstract : Parametric signal models are used in a multitude of signal processing applications. This thesis deals with signals for which there are many candidate models, and it is not a priori known which model is the most appropriate one. READ MORE

  3. 3. Translation as Linear Transduction : Models and Algorithms for Efficient Learning in Statistical Machine Translation

    Author : Markus Saers; Joakim Nivre; Anna Sågvall Hein; Dekai Wu; Kevin Knight; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; linear transduction; linear transduction grammar; inversion transduction; zipper finite-state automaton; zipper finite-state transducer; formal language theory; formal transduction theory; translation; automatic translation; machine translation; statistical machine translation; Computational linguistics; Datorlingvistik; Language technology; Språkteknologi; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : Automatic translation has seen tremendous progress in recent years, mainly thanks to statistical methods applied to large parallel corpora. Transductions represent a principled approach to modeling translation, but existing transduction classes are either not expressive enough to capture structural regularities between natural languages or too complex to support efficient statistical induction on a large scale. 4. 4. Seasonal Adjustment and Dynamic Linear Models

    Author : Can Tongur; Daniel Thorburn; Sune Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamic linear models; DLM; direct and indirect seasonal adjustment; relative efficiency; Huber loss function; Polls of polls; Wiener process; Swedish elections; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : Dynamic Linear Models are a state space model framework based on the Kalman filter. We use this framework to do seasonal adjustments of empirical and artificial data. A simple model and an extended model based on Gibbs sampling are used and the results are compared with the results of a standard seasonal adjustment method. READ MORE
