  1. 1. Tumor Cell Targeting of Stabilized Liposome Conjugates Experimental studies using boronated DNA-binding agents

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Erika Bohl Kullberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; Liposome; EGF; HER-2; Targeting; boron; Biomedicin; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases Microbiology; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar Mikrobiologi; Biomedical Radiation Science; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : To further develop cancer therapy, targeted delivery of cell killing agents directly to tumor cells is an interesting approach. This thesis describes the development of PEG-stabilized liposome conjugates targeting either epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) using its natural ligand EGF, or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) using the antibody trastuzumab. 2. 2. Drug Partitioning into Natural and Artificial Membranes Data Applicable in Predictions of Drug Absorption

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Institutionen för naturvetenskaplig biokemi

    Author : Caroline Engvall; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Cholesterol; Drug partitioning; Drugs; Electrostatic effects; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Liposome; Membrane protein; Model membrane; Oligonucleotide-liposome complex; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Surfactant; Biokemi; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Biochemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Biokemi;

    Abstract : When drug molecules are passively absorbed through the cell membrane in the small intestine, the first key step is partitioning of the drug into the membrane. Partition data can therefore be used to predict drug absorption. READ MORE

  3. 3. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Elisabet Boija; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chromatographic Studies of Solute Interactions with Immobilized Red Blood Cells and Biomembranes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ingo Gottschalk; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Affinity; Binding; Biomembrane; Biotin; Chromatography; Cytochalasin B; Dissociation constant; Drug absorption; Equilibrium; Glucose; GLUT1; Immobilization; Immobilized biomembrane affinity chromatography; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Interaction; Liposome; Membrane protein; Membrane vesicle; Partitioning; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Quantitative; Red blood cell; Solute; Specific; Streptavidin; Wheat germ agglutinin; Biokemi; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Biochemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Specific and non-specific interactions of solutes with immobilized biomembranes were studied using chromatographic methods. Liposomes, proteoliposomes and red blood cell (RBC) membrane vesicles were immobilized by a freeze-thawing procedure, whereas whole RBCs were adsorbed in the gel beds using electrostatic interaction, binding to wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or the streptavidin-biotin interaction. Abstract : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods.
