11. The Role of Tetrahedral Building Blocks in Low-Dimensional Oxohalide Materials
Abstract : The structural architecture found in low-dimensional materials can lead to a number of interesting physical properties including anisotropic conductivity, magnetic frustration and non-linear optical properties. There is no standard synthesis concept described thus far to apply when searching for new low-dimensional compounds, and therefore control on the design of the new materials is of great importance. 12. Fabrication of Low-Dimensional Structures in III-V Semiconductors
Abstract : The thesis presents studies on the processing technology and the characterization of nanometer-sized and low-dimensional structures in III-V semiconductors. Two major approaches are described: 1) the combination of aerosol technology and plasma etching for the fabrication of quantum dots (QDs) in InP-based materials and 2) the use of high-resolution electron beam lithography and plasma or wet chemical etching to make quantum well wires (QWWs) in both GaAs and InP-based structures. 13. Theoretical studies of collective electronic excitations in low-dimensional structures
Abstract : During the past decade, nanoplasmonics and nanophotonicshas emerged as a new branch of nanosciences with many novelapplications. Central in this development is the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) tunable by the sizes and shapes at nanometer scale. READ MORE

14. Spin generation and detection in low-dimensional semiconductors
Abstract : Semiconductor spintronics and opto-spintronics have intrigued intense attention as they promise great advance of contemporary semiconductor information technology with integrated spin functionalities. Over the last few decades, the development of growth techniques and discovery of topological band structures have led to the explosion of a wide range of low-dimensional semiconductor materials, many of which have superior properties compared to their bulk ancestors. 15. Excited state dynamics in low-dimensional perovskite nanocrystals
Abstract : Two-dimensional (2D) perovskites have emerged as promising building blocks for optoelectronic applications. To fabricate high-performance devices, the relation between the material structures and their function in terms of excited state and charge carrier dynamics need to be well understood. READ MORE
