  1. 1. Long QT syndrome : studies of diagnostic methods

    Author : Ulla-Britt Diamant; Steen M Jensen; Annika Rydberg; Thomas Gilljam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: The Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) is a hereditary heart disease with risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. Despite our increased knowledge about genotype and phenotype correlation we still rely on the 12-lead ECG for assessment of the QT interval and the T-wave morphology for diagnosis and risk stratification. 2. 2. Gravitational lensing as a probe of the first stars and galaxies

    Author : Claes-Erik Rydberg; Erik Zackrisson; Lise Christensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars: Population III; first stars; Galaxies: high-redshift; Galaxies: Population III; dark ages; reionization; techniques: photometric; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the potential for detection and identification of primordial stars, galaxies, and supernovae at high redshift.Simulations indicate that the first Population III stars should appear in minihalos of mass M = 105-106 Msol at z ≈ 10-30. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications

    Author : Johan Rydberg; Lars Baltzer; Joel Schneider; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Protein interactions; design; catalysis; biosensors; hybride materials; nanoparticles; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 4. 4. Integrated Photonics for Quantum Optics

    Author : Samuel Gyger; Val Zwiller; Stephan Steinhauer; Ali W. Elshaari; Marijn A. M. Versteegh; Matthew D. Shaw; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; integrated photonics; single-photons; single-photon sources; quantum dots; single-photon detectors; SNSPD; integrerad fotonik; enstaka fotoner; enstaka fotonkällor; kvantprickar; enstaka fotondetektorer; SNSPDs; Optics and Photonics; Optik och fotonik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Quantum physics allows us a vision of Nature's forces that bind the world, all its seeds and sources. After decades of primarily scientific research, we've arrived at a stage in time where quantum technology can be applied to practical problems and add value outside the field. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigations of some diatomic molecules : the hydrides of selenium, antimony and silicon and the platinum oxide

    Author : Ulf Sassenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is an extension and a summary of investigations on the electronic spectra of gaseous SeH/D, SbH/D, PtO and to some minor extent also of gaseous SiH. Rotational analyses are performed on each molecule.SeH/D molecules were generated in photolysis reactions using 12 µs long light flashes. READ MORE
