  1. 1. Chemical Interactions between Fatty Acids and Wood Components during Oxidation Processes

    Author : Alireza Salehi M.; Mats K G Johansson; Gunnar Hemriksson; Heikki Tenhu; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Fatty acids auto-oxidation on wood is proposed to follow a complex free radical interaction mechanism. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of wood constituents on oxidation of fatty acids and thereby the entire drying process, and to characterize the fatty acids-wood interaction by using analytical instruments such as RT-IR and NMR. 2. 2. Endothelium-derived Vasoactive Factors and Leukocyte-derived Inflammatory Mediators. Studies in subjects with or at risk for vascular disease

    Author : Anwaar M Ibrahim; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostacyclin.; Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy; Nitric oxide; Endothelin; Diabetes mellitus; Cytokines; Cholesterol; Atherosclerosis; Cerebral ischemia; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : This study was undertaken to evaluate relationships between endothelial function (assessed as mediators of endothelium-derived vasoactive factors such as nitric oxide [NO], prostacyclin [PGI2] and endothelin [ET-1] ), and risk factors for atherosclerosis, as well as to study possible relationships between endothelial function and leukocyte activation (indicated by measurements of leukocyte-derived inflammatory mediators) in subjects with or at risk for atherosclerosis. In subjects with asymptomatic atherosclerosis we found inverse relationships between cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in platelets (mediator of NO activity) and both serum total cholesterol and plasma ET-1 suggesting that NO-mediated vasodilation may be impaired in hypercholesterolemia and that maintenance of vascular tone is achieved by a balance between NO and ET-1. 3. 3. Get it off the ground – Facilitating water-related environmental measures to support agricultural managers in business model innovation processes for sustainability

    Author : Anna M. Hansson; Jeaneth Johansson; Eja Pedersen; Niklas Karlsson; Richard Fergusson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sustainable value creation; Business model innovation; Facilitation; Agriculture; Water management; Ecosystem services;

    Abstract : Agricultural businesses, which currently maintain, manage, create, and capture economic value from natural resources on farmland, play an important role in creating sustainable economic, environmental, and social value through maintaining and utilising a variety of ecosystem services in addition to traditional food production. This thesis focuses on ecosystem services that derive from water-related environmental measures (WREMs). READ MORE

  4. 4. People living with dementia using eldercare in Sweden

    Author : S M Atiqur Rahman; Lars-Christer Hydén; Susanne Kelfve; Pär Schön; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eldercare; Long-term care; Dementia; Social care policy; People living with dementia; Older adults; Äldreomsorg; Långtidsvård; Demens; Socialvårdspolitik; Personer som lever med demens; Äldre;

    Abstract : Dementia is a major public health concern. Due to the progressive nature of the disease, people living with dementia (PlwD) may experience challenges at different stages of dementia deriving from functional, cognitive, and communicative disabilities and as a consequence experience restriction in performing everyday tasks. 5. 5. Noble Crayfish (Astacus astacus) in a Changing World : Implications for Management

    Author : Jenny K. M. Zimmerman; Thomas Palo; Nils Ekelund; Jostein Skurdal; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Noble crayfish Astacus astacus ; CPUE; climate change; water regulation; body growth; reintroduction; sustainable fishing; monitoring.;

    Abstract : The noble crayfish (Astacus astacus) is critically endangered in Sweden. This is mainly due to the crayfish plague (Aphanomyces astaci), a lethal disease that, among other things, can be spread through the stocking of fish from contaminated water or contaminated fishing gear.
