1. Acute confusion in orthopaedic care. With the emphasis on the patients' view and the episode of confusion
Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate factors of significance for the development of acute confusional state (ACS), the confusional episodes, the lived experiences of having been confused in elderly patients admitted for emergency or elective surgery in orthopaedic care. A further aim was to investigate the nurses’ view of the ACS and the encounter with patients who developed ACS. READ MORE

3. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy : Genetic and Electrocardiographic Aspects on Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Diagnosis
Abstract : Introduction: ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy) is a heritable rare disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the right ventricle, that may cause arrhythmias and heart failure.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study various aspects of genetic information and electrocardiography (ECG), for their use in diagnosis and risk evaluation in ARVC. 4. Surface nanomechanical properties of hydrogels and coatings
Abstract : Characterizing mechanical and wear properties at the nanometer scale emerged as a fascinating and challenging topic in the last decades due to recognition of many interesting and unusual properties of nanomaterials. Due to recent developments of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique, it is now possible to measure nanomechanical properties and topography simultaneously, as well as performing and evaluating wear measurements at the nanometer scale. 5. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel
Abstract : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties.
