  1. 1. MAX phase thin films : unique multifunctional ceramics with the elements Ti, Si, Ge, Sn, and C

    Author : Jens Emmerlich; Wolfhard Möller; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thin solid films; Single-crystal; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Mn+1AXn phases are ternary carbides or nitrides (X) consisting of an early transition metal (M), and (A)- group element (group III-V). They combine ceramic and metallic properties with high oxidation and thermal shock resistance as well as low resistivity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis

    Author : Jens-Petter Palmquist; Ulf Jansson; M. Jochen Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Thin films; microstructure; epitaxy; carbide; WC; MAX-phase; Ti3SiC2; DC magnetron sputtering; PVD; Reciprocal Space Mapping; RSM; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis and Characterization of New MAX Phase Alloys

    Author : Aurelija Mockutė; Johanna Rosén; Lars Hultman; Thierry Cabioch; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This Thesis explores synthesis and characterization of new MAX phase alloys (M = early transition metal, A = A-group element, and X = C or N), based on incorporation of M and X elements previously not considered. My primary focus is on M = Mn for attaining magnetic properties, and on X = O for potential tuning of the transport properties. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films

    Author : Andrejs Petruhins; Johanna Rosén; Per O A Persson; Erik Lewin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. READ MORE
