1. Vascular effects of neuropeptides and UDP-β-S and alterations after stroke
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the changes in vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and P2Y6-mediated signaling following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). VIP and CGRP are among the most powerful vasodilators known to man while P2Y6 mediates strong vasoconstriction in cerebral blood vessels. READ MORE

2. Brain glycine receptors as a common target for alcohol and the relapse-preventing drug acamprosate - a preclinical study
Abstract : Alcohol abuse and dependence make up the most prevalent categories of substance use disorders in the world. Converging evidence from the current research group has identified two receptor populations, the glycine (GlyRs) and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the mesolimbic dopamine system, as two potentially important targets for the development of new medication to treat alcohol dependence. 3. Medication adherence, side effects and patient-physician interaction in hypertension
Abstract : Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the incidence of which it is possible to reduce by prophylactic treatment with antihypertensive drugs. In clinical practice, however, only a minority of patients reach target blood pressure levels. READ MORE

Abstract : Genetic factors are important for variations between individuals with respect to most humantraits and diseases. Sex steroids are of profound importance for reproduction, metabolism, cardiovascular function and bone formation. They are potent regulators of their ownsynthesis as well as of that of other hormones, including prolactin. READ MORE
