1. Modern men : A Norwegian 30-year longitudinal study of intergenerational transmission and social change
Abstract : The dissertation addresses men and change, intergenerational transmission, historical change and agency, employing as a case a longitudinal follow-up study over two generations of men, where the fathers participated in an experimental research project, the Work-Sharing Couples Project, which aimed to promote egalitarian work–family adaptations in Norway in the early 1970s. Abstract : In caregiving literature, it is often the female gender that has been the focus of attention, and in particular women’s unpaid labor. Studies also tend to make comparisons between men’s and women’s caregiving, using men’s caregiving experiences to show not only that women face greater burdens, but also that men’s needs can be minimized. 3. Progressive Women, Traditional Men : The Politics of 'Knowledge' and Gendered stories of 'Development' In the Northern Periphery of the EU
Abstract : This dissertation in Cultural Anthropology and Women's Studies is an ethnographic account of the meaning and politics of social scientific "knowledge production", exemplified in gendered stories of regional "development" in the inland northern Swedish province of Jämtland, after Sweden's 1995 entry into the EU and the cultural meanings they assign to men and women. European integration is experienced as an ongoing peripheralization of modernity, registered in visions of regional "development" centered on the heteronormatively defined ideal of jämställdhet (equality between men and women) and on the "resources" of place and history, forged in a cultural imaginary shared by social scientific researchers, state agencies, and grass-roots "practitioners". Abstract : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I Syndrome (MEN 1) is a monogenic autosomal dominantly inherited cancer syndrome caused by a heterozygous loss of the MEN1 gene, predisposing for endocrine cell proliferation and tumor formation. 5. Food in older men with somatic diseases : Eating habits and approaches to food-related activities
Abstract : The overall aim was to improve the knowledge and understanding of eating habits of older men with somatic diseases, and the men's perceptions about managing food-related habits, such as grocery shopping and cooking. A total of 67 men between 64 and 89 years of age were visited in their homes on two occasions with 1-2 weeks in between. READ MORE
