  1. 1. NK cell inhibitory receptor interactions with MHC class I molecules

    Author : Jonas Sundbäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NK cells; MHC class I molecules; inhibitory receptors;

    Abstract : Natural killer (NK) cells represent the third population of lymphocytes in size after B- and T-cells. NK mediated killing of target cells is strongly influenced by MHC class I molecules expressed on target cells. In contrast to T-cells, NK cells can be inhibited by MHC class I molecules through the action of specific inhibitory NK cell receptors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural studies of MHC class 1 complexes : implications for NK- and T-cell recognition

    Author : Adnane Achour; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Crystallography; MHC class I molecules; MHC class I tetramers; NK cells; T cells;

    Abstract : The cell-cell recognition events and the functional characteristics of the cell surface receptors that govern the responses of NK- and T-cells are central to molecular immunology. This thesis addresses the structural basis of such molecular recognition, more specifically the interaction between peptides and MHC class I molecules, as well as the interaction between such complexes and the inhibitory Ly49 receptors of NK cells or triggering antigen specific receptors of T-cells (TCR). 3. 3. Decoding NK cell receptor specificity : functional and structural studies of MHC class 1 subcomponents

    Author : Jakob Michaëlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NK cells; MHC class 1; inhibitory receptors;

    Abstract : Natural Killer (NK) cells are an important part of the innate immune system. They can lyse target cells and secrete immunoregulatory cytokines early during immune responses. They mediate protection against viruses and tumours, and can reject MHC class I mismatched bone marrow grafts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of non-responsiveness and death in cytotoxic T cells by the agonistic potency of MHC : peptide ligands

    Author : Michael Uhlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CD8 T cells; APL; CTLs; non-responsiveness; AICD; lck; lipid rafts; partial agonism; TCR activation.;

    Abstract : CD8+ T lymphocytes are important for immunological control of infections and tumors. The key interaction required to initiate the process of T cell activation is the engagement of the T cell receptor (TCR) with a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I/peptide complex on an antigen presenting cell (APC).
