  1. 1. A Study of Polar Ozone Depletion in the Lower Stratosphere. -Dynamical assimilation of O3 and N2O data from Odin/SMR and ENVISAT/MIPAS

    Author : JOHN RÖSEVALL; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SMR; O3; stratosphere; Odin; data assimilation; transport modelling; atmosphere; NO2; ozone depletion; MIPAS;

    Abstract : For more than 20 years, a hole in the ozone layer has formed each spring over Antarctica when sunlight returns to the polar region. Similar albeit far less extensive ozone destruction has also been observed in the Arctic polar vortex after colder than average winters. READ MORE

  2. 2. Techniques for the validation of Odin and ENVISAT satellite data

    Author : Ashley Jones; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; data assimilation; remote sensing; ozone; Odin; stratosphere; validation; limb sounding; MIPAS; balloon sonde; systematic;

    Abstract : The depletion of ozone from the stratosphere and the impact of global warming have been identified as phenomena caused as a result of anthropogenic activity. Scientists are thus trying to find quicker and more reliable ways to analyse these environmental problems. READ MORE

    Abstract : The depletion of ozone from the stratosphere and the impact of global warming have been identified as phenomena caused as a result of anthropogenic activity. Scientists are thus trying to find quicker and more reliable ways to analyse these environmental problems. READ MORE

  4. 4. New perspectives in mesospheric wave dynamics and oxygen photochemistry

    Author : Anqi Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxygen airglow; mesospheric ozone.; gravity wave; Satellite limb observation;

    Abstract : The mesosphere is the region of the atmosphere between 50km to 100km, where both dynamical and photochemical aspects play important roles for the thermal balance. This thesis focuses on the following three areas for mesospheric studies: wave dynamics, oxygen photochemistry and retrieval using the optimal estimation method. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Numerical Tracer Advection in the Stratosphere and Assimilation of Data from Satellites

    Author : JOHN RÖSEVALL; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stratosphere; transport modelling; O3; ozone depletion; data assimilation;

    Abstract : Since the early 1980's, large scale ozone depletion has been observed in the lower regions of the ozone layer over Antarctica when sunlight returns to the polar region in the early spring. The destruction of ozone is attributed to anthropogenic emissions of freon and halon compounds that have augmented the natural stratospheric concentrations of nonreactive Clx and Brx reservoir species with several hundred percent.
