  1. 21. Molecular Approaches to Photochemical Solar Energy Conversion : Towards Synthetic Catalysts for Water Oxidation and Proton Reduction

    Author : Gerriet Eilers; Reiner Lomoth; Leif Hammarström; Wolfgang Lubitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physical chemistry; artificial photosynthesis; solar fuel; WOC; OEC; accumulative electron transfer; hydrogenase mimic; oxygen evolution; proton reduction; water oxidation; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : A molecular system capable of photoinduced water splitting is an attractive approach to solar energy conversion. This thesis deals with the functional characterization of molecular building blocks for the three principal functions of such a molecular system: Photoinduced accumulative charge separation, catalytic water oxidation, and catalytic proton reduction. 2. 22. On-line Electrochemistry Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications

    Author : Camilla Zettersten; Leif Nyholm; Per Sjöberg; Andries P. Bruins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with studies of on-line electrochemistry electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (EC/ESI-MS). It is shown that the use of EC/ESI-MS demands optimal coupling characteristics. Pre-concentration and desalting, due to matrix exchange, were demonstrated for the model substance 1-hexanethiol in an EC/ESI-MS setup. READ MORE

  3. 23. Structural, Electronic and Reactive Properties of Pentapyridyl - Base Metal Complexes : Relevance for Water Oxidation Catalysis

    Author : Manuel Boniolo; Johannes Messinger; Antoni Llobet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water oxidation; Base metal complexes; Redox potential; Spin crossover; Magnetic anisotropy; Chemistry with specialization in Molecular Biomimetics; Kemi med inriktning mot molekylär biomimetik;

    Abstract : The rationalization of chemical-physical proprieties of transition metal complexes is fundamental in order to understand and tune their reactivity. In this thesis, a systematic investigation of the geometrical and electronic properties of [M(Py5OH)Cl]+ complexes (M= Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) has been performed, and their ability to act as molecular water oxidation catalysts has been probed. 4. 24. Reaction Mechanisms of Metalloenzymes and Synthetic Model Complexes Activating Dioxygen : A Computational study

    Author : Valentin Georgiev; Per E.M. Siegbahn; Sam de Visser; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalysis; density functional theory; extradiol; intradiol; dioxygenases; oxygen; biomimetic complexes; heme; spin transition; adipic acid; Chemical physics; Kemisk fysik; kvantkemi; Quantum Chemistry;

    Abstract : Quantum chemistry has nowadays become a powerful and efficient tool that can be successfully used for studies of biosystems. It is therefore possibleto model the enzyme active-site and the reactions undergoing into it, as well as obtaining quite accurate energetic profiles. READ MORE

  5. 25. Development and Mechanistic Studies of Molecularly Defined Water Oxidation Catalysts : Catalysts for a Green and Sustainable Future

    Author : Markus Kärkäs; Björn Åkermark; Jean-François Nierengarten; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial photosynthesis; water oxidation; photochemistry; electrochemistry; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of complexes that are active catalysts for H2O oxidation. Promoting proton-coupled electron transfer has been a highly important feature in the development of these catalysts. READ MORE
