    Abstract : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. READ MORE

  2. 2. Translational studies of drug-induced tumor cell death

    Author : Maria Hägg Olofsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : It is essential to understand the mechanisms of action of anticancer drugs in order to obtain good treatment results. I have in the present thesis studied clinically used anticancer agents as well as other agents that induce tumor cell death. READ MORE

  3. 3. Acoustic manipulation for cell and spheroid cellomics

    Author : Karl Olofsson; Martin Viklund; Maria Tenje; KTH; []
    Keywords : Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Abstract : Ultrasonic standing wave (USW) particle manipulation has during the last two decades matured into a valuable tool to combine with microfluidics. Acoustophoresis, migration through sound, is the result of the acoustic radiation force acting on particles suspended in an acoustic field. Abstract : INTRODUCTION: Malnutrition and obesity are health concerns among older (aged ≥ 65 years) adults, but the combination of them have not been studied thoroughly nor have they been thoroughly investigated in very old (aged ≥ 85 years) adults. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the prevalence, trends in prevalence and associations with mortality of malnutrition and obesity, assessed by Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) and the body mass index (BMI), respectively, and to examine the combined effects of these conditions on mortality.
