  1. 1. Protein production and purification in structural genomics

    Author : Martin Hammarström; Per-Åke Nygren; Torleif Härd; Helena Berglund; Herman van Tilbeurgh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Recombinational cloning; Escherichia coli; gene expression; fusion proteins; solubility; circular dichroism; nuclear magnetic resonance; Structural biochemistry; Strukturbiokemi;

    Abstract : The number of gene products available for structural and functional study is increasing at an unprecedented rate as a result of the successful whole genome sequencing projects. Systematic structure determination of proteins on a genomic scale, called structural genomics, can significantly contribute to the field of protein science and to functional annotation of newly identified genes. 2. 2. Illuminating Benzothiadiazole : Mechanistic Insights into its Role in Fuel-Forming Reactions

    Author : Martin Axelsson; Haining Tian; Leif Hammarström; Ksenjia Glusac; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysis; Electrocatalysis; Renewable Energy; Mechanistic Studies; Cyclic Voltammetry; Benzothiadiazole;

    Abstract : Development and understanding of catalytic reactions involved in fuel formation are crucial to be able to make the energy transition into a sustainable future. One intriguing type of catalyst for these types of reactions is organic material catalysts, which combine some of the tunable nature of molecular catalysts with the scalability and robust nature of material catalysts. 3. 3. Regulation of Proton Coupled Electron Transfer from Amino Acids in Artificial Model Systems: A Mechanistic Study

    Author : Martin Sjödin; Leif Hammarström; Jan Davidsson; G. Daniel Nocera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Proton Coupled Electron Transfer; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Electron Transfer; Hydrogen bond; Photosystem II; Proton transfer; Radical protein; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Amino acid radicals are key redox intermediates in several natural enzymes including Cytochrome c peroxidase, DNA photolyase, ribonucletide reductase, cytochrome c oxidase and photosystem II. Electron transfer from amino acids is often coupled to deprotonation and this thesis concerns the coupling of electron transfer from tyrosine and tryptophan to trisbipyridineruthenium(III) with deprotonation in model complexes. 4. 4. Cell type-specific translatome analysis of mouse models of three genetic neurodegenerative diseases

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Walker Scott Jackson; Martin Hallbeck; Per Hammarström; Johan Jakobsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The burden neurodegenerative diseases place on patients, their loved ones, and the healthcare system is significant, and despite extensive research efforts, there is currently no cure. Since degenerative changes in the brain can begin years before symptoms appear, early intervention is critical. READ MORE
