  1. 1. Maternal Separation in Rats An Experimental Model for Long-Term Effects of Early Life Experiences on Neurochemistry, Voluntary Ethanol Intake and Exploration and Risk Assessment Behavior

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Erika Roman; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Handling; Maternal Deprivation; Environment; Opioids; Dopamine; Alcohol; Stress; Concentric Square Field; Open Field; Elevated Plus-maze; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; PHARMACY Pharmaceutical pharmacology; FARMACI Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : The period of early life is important for the development of individual brain function and behavior. Human studies have shown altered vulnerability to develop psychopathology and/or excessive drug intake, possibly leading to dependence, as a consequence of early life experiences. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Stress Hypothesis Implications for the induction of diabetes-related autoimmunity in children?

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Abstract : Background: Second to Finland, Sweden has the world’s highest incidence of type 1 diabetes. Experiences of serious life events have retrospectively been shown to constitute a risk factor for the development of this disease, probably via the biological stress response. READ MORE

  3. 3. Early Experience, Maternal Care and Behavioural Test Design Effects on the Temperament of Military Working Dogs

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

READ MORE

  4. 4. Physiological Stress Reactivity in Late Pregnancy

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Charlotte Hellgren; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]

    Abstract : During pregnancy, the basal activity is increased in both of our major stress response systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. At the same time, the reactivity towards stressors is reduced. These alterations sustain maternal and fetal homeostasis, and are involved in the regulation of gestational length. READ MORE

  5. 5. Maternal Separation in the Rat The Short- and Long-term effects of Early-life Experience on Neuropeptides, Monoamines and Voluntary Ethanol Consumption

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Sadia Oreland; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]

    Abstract : Early-life experience has profound effects on the individual’s neurobiology and behaviour later in life. The rodent animal experimental model maternal separation (MS) was used to study this more in detail. The MS model involves short and prolonged postnatal separations simulating an emotionally safe and stressful environment, respectively. READ MORE
