  1. 1. Stable FEM-FDTD Hybrid Method for Maxwell's Equations

    Author : Thomas Rylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite Element Method; scattering; antennas; stability analysis; edge elements; Maxwell s equations; NASA almond; microwave circuits; mass lumping; proof of stability; explicit-implicit time-stepping; Finite-Differences Time-Domain;

    Abstract : In this thesis edge elements are applied to solve several problems in computational electromagnetics. In particular, a hybrid scheme joining the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) algorithm is developed, tested and exploited. READ MORE

  2. 2. Iterative solution of Maxwell's equations in frequency domain

    Author : Martin Nilsson; Per Lötstedt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : We have developed an iterative solver for the Moment Method. It computes a matrix–vector product with the multilevel Fast Multipole Method, which makes the method scale with the number of unknowns. The iterative solver is of Block Quasi-Minimum Residual type and can handle several right-hand sides at once. READ MORE

  3. 3. Topology optimization of antennas and waveguide transitions

    Author : Emadeldeen Hassan; Martin Berggren; Daniel Noreland; Eddie Wadbro; Mats Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Maxwell s equations; topology optimization; antennas; waveguide transition; finite-difference time-domain; gradient-based optimization; adjoint-field problem; microwave devices.; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis introduces a topology optimization approach to design, from scratch, efficient microwave devices, such as antennas and waveguide transitions. The design of these devices is formulated as a general optimization problem that aims to build the whole layout of the device in order to extremize a chosen objective function. READ MORE

  4. 4. Direct and Inverse Methods for Waveguides and Scattering Problems in the Time Domain

    Author : Erik Abenius; Per Lötstedt; Mats Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Maxwell s equations; time-domain; FDTD; finite-element; hybrid; thin sheet; waveguide; PML; inverse scattering; adjoint; gradient-based; minimization; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Numerical simulation is an important tool in understanding the electromagnetic field and how it interacts with the environment. Different topics for time-domain finite-difference (FDTD) and finite-element (FETD) methods for Maxwell's equations are treated in this thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effective properties of heterogeneous materials with applications in electromagnetics

    Author : Christian Engström; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; homogenization; optics; acoustics; Electromagnetism; structural parameters; anisotropic material; inverse homogenization; Bloch waves; Maxwell s equations; Elektromagnetism; optik; akustik; Inverse bounds;

    Abstract : Composite materials, i.e, mixtures of two or more materials, are commonly used in industry, because they often have outstanding properties in comparison with the original materials. In many cases the inhomogeneities are on a very fine scale, which makes it difficult to perform a full numerical simulation of the material. READ MORE
