1. The Physical Axon : Modeling, Simulation and Electrode Evaluation
Abstract : Electrodes are used in medicine for detection of biological signals and for stimulating tissue, e.g. in deep brain stimulation (DBS). For both applications, an understanding of the functioning of the electrode, and its interface and interaction with the target tissue involved is necessary. READ MORE

2. A Segmented Silicon Strip Detector for Photon-Counting Spectral Computed Tomography
Abstract : Spectral computed tomography with energy-resolving detectors has a potential to improve the detectability of images and correspondingly reduce the radiation dose to patients by extracting and properly using the energy information in the broad x-ray spectrum. A silicon photon-counting detector has been developed for spectral CT and it has successfully solved the problem of high photon flux in clinical CT applications by adopting the segmented detector structure and operating the detector in edge-on geometry. 3. Haptic and visual simulation of material cutting process : a study focused on bone surgery and the use of simulators for education and training
Abstract : A prototype of a haptic and virtual reality simulator has been developed for simulation of the bone milling and material removal process occurring in several operations, e.g. temporal bone surgery or dental milling. The milling phase of an operation is difficult, safety critical and very time consuming. READ MORE

4. Managing Effects of Manufacturing Variation in Dental Medical Device Treatments - Increasing Geometrical Robustness
Abstract : Today, there are many solutions for dental rehabilitation. A damaged tooth can be replaced with a dental crown, and a toothless patient can be rehabilitated with implants and a corresponding bridge set-up. Traditionally, a dental crown is manufactured by veneering porcelain to a metal surface that is obtained through the use of casting principles. READ MORE

5. Imaging and modeling the cardiovascular system
Abstract : Understanding cardiac pumping function is crucial to guiding diagnosis, predicting outcomes of interventions, and designing medical devices that interact with the cardiovascular system. Computer simulations of hemodynamics can show how the complex cardiovascular system is influenced by changes in single or multiple parameters and can be used to test clinical hypotheses. READ MORE
